The Theater of Palmyra
Palmyra is the bride of the Syrian badyeh ( Desert ) .
It is a prominent history landmark . The kingdom of Palmyra stood against the Roman Empire at its golden age and glory and was able to attain a glorious history .
Although it had a significant military role , it also had a cultural role as seen by its buildings and ruins left standing there .
The theater of Palmyra is one of the most important landmarks showing how the cultural and mental sections of life were important to the kings and rulers of Palmyra, the theater stands to the left side of the straight street .
It was constructed in a semicircle with a diameter of 20 m. It comprises 13 steps of tires , two gates , one to the east and the other to the west , leading to the nave of the theater which is covered with white stones smoothly paved .
The stage itself is a platform with three " Iwans " and a number of rooms in the backstage for actors and singers' use .
Outside the theater there are number are a number of pillars 20m from the main tires.
This open space used to hold the crowds of audience entering the theater to attend the show
Since 1985 it has been restored and turned to life through the many festivals and folkloric celebrations held there, the most important of which is " AL Badiya Festival ".
